Pendant Light with Three-Shade System
As early as 1958, designer Poul Henningsen created the PH 5 pendant lamp as an evolution of his three-shade system from 192 6. This lamp is based on a meticulous analysis of the reflective properties of light and, thanks to its innovative, glare-free design. In the spirit of Poul Henningsen, Louis Poulsen now presents the PH 5 Mini—a smaller version of the classic pendant lamp designed for a modern and creative atmosphere.Completely glare-free
Henningsen designed the PH 5 in response to the constant changes in the shape and size of incandescent bulbs. He developed a lamp that remained completely glare-free no matter how it was mounted or what type of light source was used. In addition, Henningsen also sought to improve the light source’s color rendering with the PH 5. Small red and blue shades were used to complement the colors in the range of the spectrum that the eye perceives least clearly—namely, red and blue. At the same time, the light is dimmed in the middle yellow-green range, where the eye is most sensitive. The PH 5 Mini is being introduced with an innovative new color palette. The lamp plays with colors, starting at the top with the darkest shade and becoming progressively softer from shade to shade. The name PH 5 corresponds to the diameter of the top shade, which is 50 cm. The PH 5 Mini version, on the other hand, has a diameter of just 30 cm, making it ideal for small rooms. Thanks to its wide color palette, the PH 5 Mini is also ideal for hanging in groups to create an expressive ensemble.Architecture and Light: Poul Henningsen
Poul Henningsen was born in Copenhagen, the son of the famous Danish actress Agnes Henningsen. He did not earn a degree in architecture, but studied at the Frederiksberg Technical School from 1911 to 1914 and then at the Technical College in Copenhagen from 1914 to 1917. He also began to apply traditional functionalist architecture. However, his professional interest soon focused primarily on lighting design—and that is what he is famous for.Exquisitely Designed Lighting— Louis Poulsen
