Vitra Eames RAR Rocking Chair with Plastic Seat Shell

The Plastic Armchairs were first presented in 1948 as part of the Museum of Modern Art in New York’s “ &, ‘Low Cost Furniture Design & ’” competition. The organically shaped seat shell, made of glass-fiber-reinforced plastic, was later combined with various bases—such as the RAR’s rocking glides—and produced in the millions. In their current version made of polypropylene, the armchairs offer even greater seating comfort. Starting in 2024, all seat shells for the Eames Plastic Chairs from Vitra will be manufactured from recycled post-consumer plastic sourced from the German household waste collection program “Der Gelbe Sack.” Exception: the color white 04 will be available in the previous material until the end of 2024.
