Cone-Shaped Pendant Light
The " PH Artichoke " is a classic masterpiece created by Poul Henningsen in 1958. Henningsen is considered one of the leading figures in the artistic world during the interwar period. Even during his lifetime, his designs were produced by Louis Poulsen , and this has remained the case to this day. Nearly as popular and undoubtedly just as stylish as Henningsen’s best-known work, the PH Pendant Lamp, the Artichoke features a structure composed of twelve steel arches. Arranged on this structure are 72 “leaves” in twelve circular rows of six leaves each, which together resemble the shape of a cone. Since each row is offset from the previous one, all 72 leaves “overlap” one another, creating a fully glare-free fixture whose light source remains concealed from every angle. The light is directed onto and reflected by the leaves below, creating a distinctive, unique illumination. The first Artichoke lamps were developed for a restaurant in Copenhagen called the Langelinie Pavilion—and they still hang there today.Architecture and Light: Poul Henningsen
Poul Henningsen was born in Copenhagen, the son of the famous Danish actress Agnes Henningsen. He did not earn a degree in architecture, but studied at the Frederiksberg Technical School from 1911 to 1914 and then at the Technical College in Copenhagen from 1914 to 1917. He also began to apply traditional functionalist architecture. However, his professional interest soon focused primarily on lighting design—and that is what he is famous for.Exquisitely Designed Lighting— Louis Poulsen
The Danish lighting manufacturer Louis Poulsen , founded in 1874, creates products that embody the duality of design and light. Every detail of a design serves a specific purpose. Every design begins and ends with light. Louis Poulsen offers a wide range of lighting solutions for indoor and outdoor use, covering both professional applications and residential settings. In close collaboration with designers and architects such as Poul Henningsen, Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton, Øivind Slaatto, Alfred Homann, Clara von Zweigbergk, nendo – Oki Sato, and GamFratesi, Louis Poulsen has established itself as one of the world’s leading providers of architectural and decorative lighting. To celebrate its 150th anniversary, Louis Poulsen is presenting an exclusive collection of iconic lamps. They feature a delicate shade of pink on the inside of the shades and elegant brass details, making them unique design pieces and coveted collector’s items.
