In the early 1950s, designer Harry Bertoia created a series of chairs with steel frames that, in the designer’s own words, “consist mostly of air.” The “ Bertoia ” chair and the “Diamond Chair” are the best-known of these designs. Now regarded as design classics, these pieces symbolize the innovative design of the 1950s and their creator: Harry Bertoia .

The “ Bertoia ” chair is made of steel wire that is hand-drawn and hand-welded using a highly complex process. Thanks to its industrial material and flowing form, the Bertoia chair appears like a sculptural work of art, whose delicate silhouette seems to belie the strength and stability of its construction.

As a reissue, the Bertoia chair is produced by Knoll based on the designer’s original drawings. Available in various versions, the chair is suitable for both indoor living spaces and—with a Rilsan protective coating—as an outdoor chair for the garden or patio.
