Low Futon Bed

The Japan bed from Karup Design consists of a frame with eight legs that hovers about 20 cm above the floor. It is made of sustainable pine or oak and is available in various finishes. Japanese Tradition

In the broadest sense, the futon is the Japanese sleeping arrangement. It consists of a cotton-filled mattress that is laid out on a floor composed of tatami mats. Tatami is a mat made of rice straw that is laid out on the floor in traditional Japanese rooms and serves as a base for the futon. In the Western world, the futon refers to a very low, simple bed frame with a mattress—the actual futon. Please note: A Karup mattress is not included and can be chosen according to your preference and easily replaced as needed.
