The idea for Hee arose from the desire to design an eco-friendly series of chairs and armchairs made from materials that would be easy to recycle. By crafting a piece of furniture from a single material, one avoids environmentally harmful transportation routes between different production sites, and this also simplifies the recycling process. The basic idea was to take an archetypal chair as a template and perfect every single detail, elevating the design to a higher level while simultaneously simplifying the structure and improving functionality. The goal was to create a clean, simple piece of furniture that would fit in many settings—modern, yet not so tied to a specific era that it couldn’t be used for a long time. Nothing about this bar stool is superfluous; nothing is mere ornamentation. No part could be removed without compromising its function. While its exterior appears playful, the design in no way detracts from its function. A throwaway mentality and environmental awareness are incompatible. Finding that balance was also crucial during the design process—to combine functionality and aesthetics at a high level, exactly the right wire gauge had to be chosen. The Hee chairs, the lounge chair, and the bar stools are made of 11-mm-thick metal wire, and their form is reminiscent of a sketch—a three-dimensional pencil drawing. Hee It is available as a club chair, a dining chair, or a bar stool. It can be seen, among other places, in the new Oslo Opera House and the Australian Parliament. The stackable furniture is galvanized and powder-coated. This makes it weather-resistant and therefore ideal for outdoor seating. HAY Hee It is available in various colors and heights.
