Alexander Girard is considered a master of patterns. Known for his colorful graphic designs for Herman Miller, his designs now adorn small furniture pieces, home accessories, and textiles. As a sought-after interior architect and industrial designer, Girard also took on the design of his own home in Santa Fe, a project that gave rise to the lovingly crafted Wooden Dolls. Today, these intricately detailed design objects—inspired by a love of international folk art—are found in living rooms and children’s rooms around the world. Due to their growing popularity, the Wooden Doll family—part of the “ Vitra ” Home Complements collection—is welcoming new animal members. Joining the charming wooden figures, whose expressions range from cheerful to stern, are the Wooden Doll Cat and Dog. In contrast to the colorful family members, the dog and cat are finished in understated black. Each of these playful figures consists of three parts connected by magnets. This allows the individual elements to be rotated, swapped, and reassembled.
