Butterfly Stool by Sori Yanagi

Vitra ’s Butterfly Stool uniquely combines Eastern forms with the plywood bending technique developed by Charles and Ray Eames. Japanese designer Sori Yanagi created the Butterfly Stool as early as 1954. The gently curved silhouette of the Butterfly Stool’s two seat shells is reminiscent of a butterfly’s wings, hence the name: Butterfly. Vitra manufactures the Butterfly Stool from lacquered molded plywood in various versions. The hardware is made of brass. The Butterfly Stool is part of the collection at the Vitra Design Museum.
