Asian Paper Floor Lamp
The Akari 10A floor lamp is part of the Akari Light Sculptures, which were designed in 1951 by the American-Japanese artist and designer Isamu Noguchi. He chose the name “ & ” (“akari & ”), the Japanese term for brightness and light, which also conveys a sense of lightness. The inspiration for his lamp designs came from a visit to the Japanese fishing village of Gifu, where Noguchi observed the fishermen at work. They used not only trained cormorants for hunting but also lanterns to attract the fish. These lanterns had bamboo ribs covered with fine paper. Inspired by the design of these traditional lanterns, he set out to create his own light sculptures from wood and paper. For the 10A floor lamp, the designer uses paper made from the mulberry tree, as it softens the light and distributes it gently and evenly. & “The light of an Akari shines like sunlight filtered through shoji paper. The magic of the paper transforms the cool electricity back into the eternal light of the sun, so that its warmth can continue to fill our rooms even at night.” Isamu NoguchiDelicate Tripod Lamp
The spherical shape of the lampshade sits atop three tall legs made of painted steel wire, lending it a certain lightness. Details in wood and bamboo add further accents and create a harmonious blend of materials. With its soft light distribution and extraordinary design, the Akari 10A floor lamp brings warmth, coziness, and style to any living space.
