Pendant Light with Spirals

The Spiral lamp series was designed by Verner Panton in 1969 and is currently produced by the Danish company Verpan . The Spiral lamps are considered a further development of the Fun Lamp series, which Panton had already introduced five years earlier (1964). As with the Fun Lamp, Panton uses metal hoops for the Spiral Lamp, to which he attaches movable elements using small metal rings. Unlike the Fun Lamp, however, the Spiral Lamp does not use mother-of-pearl or aluminum plates, but rather spiral-like elements made of plastic. These spirals—which give the lamp its name—create a spherical overall appearance because they are suspended at different levels. As with the Fun Lamp, the Spiral Lamp is available as a single lamp with a metal frame or in cluster formations with one to three “bundles of lights” arranged one below the other. A masterful example of Panton’s unique interplay of shapes and colors, the Spiral Lamp engages all the senses. A gentle breeze sets the spirals in motion, and the lamp seems to come to life. The light (E27 bulb, max. 75 W) shines from inside the lamp body onto the spirals, which in turn disperse it throughout the room as wonderful reflections through gentle rotational movements. “Light and color are closely intertwined. (Light) colors can bring about significant changes, for example, when transitioning from daylight to artificial light or from bright to dim lighting. Furthermore, color perception is influenced by the texture of the material. Even if a piece of fabric has the same color as a glossy enamel tile, the two behave completely differently,” says Verner Panton about the interplay of light, color, and material in design. Every Verpan product is delivered with a certificate of authenticity. This certificate guarantees that the products are originals, still manufactured today by Verpan in accordance with Verner Panton’s strict quality standards.
