Mother-of-pearl lamp with a multifaceted play of light

The Panton lamp Fun M.O.P., the history of the Danish company Verpan also began. The lamp was the first product of the then-young company to produce the designs of Danish designer Verner Panton (1926–1998). Verner Panton always viewed the world around him as a source of inspiration for his designs. The Fun Lamp (M.O.P.), designed in 1964, is the best example of Panton’s remarkable attention to detail. The beach, the sun, light, and sand—he incorporated these impressions into his Fun Lamp collection. Natural elements combined with creative design and functional requirements result in a lamp that not only features an appealing design but also appeals to a wide range of the senses: The lamp captivates with both its multifaceted play of light and the gentle sounds produced by the numerous mother-of-pearl elements, which create a sense of sensual tranquility.

The Fun Lamp 11DM primarily because of the material used by Panton: mother-of-pearl. Given its fragile and graceful appearance, one could Fun Lamp could just as easily be called the “Mother of All Pearls.” The Fun 11DM is composed of semi-transparent, round mother-of-pearl scales that are connected to one another in a movable manner by small metal rings. They are attached to five large metal hoops. This makes the Fun 11DM, with a diameter of 70 cm, ranks among the larger pieces in the collection. The actual light source of the “ Verpan ” lamp, however, is hidden behind the plates—just like the pearl inside a shell. The light is projected onto the mother-of-pearl plates, which reflect the characteristic luster of mother-of-pearl. The cable, with its black fabric sheathing, has a subtle appearance and remains in the background, ensuring that Verner Panton’s masterfully composed play of light always takes center stage. Every Verpan product is delivered with a certificate of authenticity. This certificate guarantees that these are original products, still manufactured today by Verpan according to Verner Panton’s strict quality standards.
