The chair In Between SK1 by & Tradition plays with the existing and non-existing spaces that this chair occupies and fills. The play between positive and negative space is central theme of the chair design.

Gapless design

The two strikingly large gaps in the side and back of the chair, as well as the existing design of the chair, create shapes and spaces, giving the chair a complex design that plays with the perceptions of the viewer.

Play with the senses

The chair In Between SK1 made of solid wood is absolutely stable and strong and appears, through the generous gaps and the noble wood grain light and delicate. Designer Sami Kallio uses two classic techniques to achieve this. The molding press presses the wood into the right shape, making it thinner, lighter and at the same time more durable, and the turning is used to better highlight the peculiarities and structure of the wood. The traditional Scandinavian woodworking and the innovative detail-oriented ideas of designer Sami Kallio come together in the chair In Between and transform the chair into a diffuse design object that plays with all the senses.
