Cantilever Armchair by Marcel Breuer

The " S 35 " was designed by Marcel Breuer as early as 19329 and presented in 1930 as a comfortable club chair at the Grand Palais in Paris as a contribution by the Deutscher Werkbund. S 35 succeeded in incorporating all the functions of a cantilevered tubular steel armchair into a single, continuous line.

Tubular Steel Armchair

The Thonet armchair S 35 consists of a curved, chrome-plated tubular steel frame and seat and backrest surfaces made from a wide variety of materials, such as leather and fabric in many colors. The armrests are made of stained beech or oiled walnut. The armrests, which spring independently of the seat and balance the sway of the rearward-projecting seat and backrest frame, create a doubling of the cantilever effect. For even greater seating comfort, the “ S 35 ” footstool ( LH) is available in matching materials and colors to complement the “ S 35 ” armchair.
