The " side by side " project is a collaboration between designers and workshops for people with disabilities. Boatbuilder and product designer Andreas Ulbricht designed this simple and timeless bread box made of light maple and oak as part of this project. The maple lid is a distinctive feature of the design. It is grooved on one side and smooth on the other, so it is not only intended to close the bread box but can also be used as a bread cutting board. A fabric liner protects the bread inside the box from moisture, preventing it from molding too quickly. side by side ’s bread box is manufactured at the Caritas workshops in Westerwald/Rhein-Lahn. The Caritas workshops aim to integrate people with disabilities both professionally and socially. There, they receive support in learning vocational skills and abilities, as well as assistance in developing their social skills. The design by Andreas Ulbricht and the staff of the Caritas workshop in Westerwald/Rhein-Lahn was honored with the Design Plus Award and received the Form Prize in 2002.
