Minimalist Clock with a Scandinavian Look

Although there are more ways than ever to check the time these days—on a computer, smartphone, or tablet—the wall clock remains one of the most popular home accessories in modern interior design. This is especially true of Arne Jacobsen’s famous classics, such as the Station, which, with its unmistakable retro aesthetic, can transform a bare wall into a striking design statement—requiring nothing more than a nail in the wall. Its dual function as both a practical timepiece and a work of art inspired Rosendahl to bring Arne Jacobsen’s “Station” wall clock out of the archives and reissue the original 1941 design with an outer ring in elegant black aluminum.

Inspiration from the Kitchen—and the Bauhaus

The Station, which Arne Jacobsen originally created in 1941 for the electrical appliance manufacturer LK, differs from other Rosendahl AJ wall clocks in its Arabic numerals, which stand out clearly against the dial and, together with their characteristic black and white hands, mark the passing of time. Like many of Arne Jacobsen’s other works, the graphic design of the Rosendahl AJ Station wall clock features clear references to the German Bauhaus. The architectural beauty of the clock is further emphasized by another design feature: an outer ring of black aluminum encircles the individual parts of the wall clock, serving as a precursor to the City Hall clock, which Arne Jacobsen created in 1956 using the same type of aluminum ring.
