Cozy Lounge Chair with Hygge

The Hyg Lounge Chair from Normann Copenhagen was designed by Simon Legald and is named after the Danish concept of Hygge. While it’s untranslatable and hard to define, Hygge is all about making yourself comfortable. Candlelight, a hot cup of tea, and a cozy blanket on cold days—but also the cozy togetherness of a balmy summer night in your own garden—all radiate the Danish sense of “hygge,” which Legald sought to capture in his Hyg series. With Hyg, Simon Legald has designed a series that feels like a warm, heartfelt embrace, where soft lines and enveloping contours create an intimate and cozy space. “My inspiration for Hyg was to create a space within a space that conveys a sense of calm and security, but with a playful, free design expression. The concave shape of the design invites contemplation. You can retreat into the armchair with a cup of coffee or a good book, while the armrests draw the focus toward the center—an invitation to togetherness and conversation_,” _{explains Simon Legald.}

Slim contours and a sweeping silhouette

The armchair is available with four-star bases made of oak in natural and black finishes. A plastic seat shell ensures stability, while the polyurethane foam padding is soft and conforms to the body. Fabric and leather upholstery in a wide variety of colors round out the range of options. Additionally, the backrest is available in a low or high version. The armchair is available in many different versions to optimally suit every need and taste. Hyg’s sweeping silhouette exudes an almost organic purity. Its voluminous form is balanced by a slim contour, which creates a sleek and refined visual expression.
