AJ Table Lamp by Arne Jacobsen
Louis Poulsen ’s AJ table lamps pay tribute to designer Arne Jacobsen and celebrate the 60th anniversary of the AJ lighting series. The collection features both classic and contemporary colors that have been carefully selected to complement Arne Jacobsen’s existing color palette. Dark green, ochre, rust red, midnight blue, aubergine, and two shades of gray are available.Table Lamp for the SAS Royal Hotel
The AJ table lamp was designed for the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel, which opened in 1960. Arne Jacobsen not only designed the building, but also created the entire interior, including furniture, cutlery, textiles, and lighting, thereby creating one of the world’s first design hotels.Swiveling Shade with an Asymmetrical Shape
The Arne Jacobsen table lamp stands out for its extraordinary, swiveling shade, whose asymmetrical shape distributes the light accordingly. The lamp base, with its characteristic opening, contributes to the elegance and lightness of the design. As a result, it has long been considered one of the modern design classics of the 20. century.Conical Metal Shade
The AJ table lamp is based on the same principles as the AJ floor lamp; however, the shade was enlarged to make it more suitable for use as a task lamp. The angles of the conical metal shade are designed to match the angle of the lamp holder. At least, that was the original intention; in reality, however, the angle was slightly adjusted for visual balance. When the lamp is tilted downward, the edge of the lamp holder is horizontal. The interior of the shade is enameled in matte white. The shade provides effective light containment; you cannot see into the light source. We recommend using a clear incandescent bulb, as this makes the best use of the light and ensures that the light beams are clearly defined.Danish Design Legend: Arne Jacobsen
Arne Jacobsen was born and raised in Copenhagen. In 1927, he graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen with a degree in architecture. He worked at the office of the City Architect of Copenhagen until he opened his own architectural firm two years later. Arne Jacobsen is a world-renowned Danish modernist architect. The buildings he designed are located in Denmark, Germany, and the United Kingdom.Exquisitely Designed Lighting— Louis Poulsen
