The tradition of Korbo baskets dates back to the early 1920s. At that time, the baskets were primarily used by farmers and fishermen who needed a reliable, durable, and sturdy way to store and transport fish, fruit, potatoes, and other items that could withstand wind and weather. Since then, the baskets have continued to be hand-woven using exactly the same technique. The unique construction—in which a single wire is woven by hand without any welded joints—gives the baskets exceptional durability.

Korbo baskets are available in two steel variants—galvanized steel or stainless steel. Both variants are rust-resistant.
Galvanization is a process used to prevent corrosion by applying a physical barrier of zinc to the surface. Galvanized steel has been used successfully for over 150 years, and over time, the wire develops a beautiful, matte patina. Stainless steel, on the other hand, contains nickel and molybdenum, which combine with the steel to form a completely rust-free alloy. Unlike galvanized wire, stainless steel is not only protected from corrosion on the surface but is completely rust-free. Stainless steel baskets remain shiny, no matter what environments or weather conditions they are exposed to. Baskets made of solid copper or brass wire develop a unique patina over time—depending on their application, exposure to moisture, and other factors.
