Thanks to the pioneering work of Florence Knoll and the Knoll Planning Unit, many offices in America were furnished according to the same model in the postwar period. To create a space better suited to communication than previous designs, Florence Knoll designed its Florence table. Drawing on its architectural expertise, Knoll did away with the intimidating, massive table and replaced it with a more inviting solution: The Florence coffee table was clearly inspired by Mies van der Rohe, one of Florence Knoll. It is said Florence that Knoll, when designing the Knoll Florence table, she debated with a colleague over 16ths and 32ths of an inch when it came to the proportions of the table legs. The details of the Florence coffee table are simple and create a clean beauty with perfect proportions. Thanks to these qualities, the Knoll Florence table has long since made its way out of offices and into numerous homes and public spaces around the world.
