With his Tulip Collection, Eero Saarinen wanted to clean up the “ugly, confusing, restless world & ” that lay beneath tables and chairs: & The tangle of legs had always bothered the Finnish architect and designer. It took Saarinen five years of experimentation and modeling before he unveiled the perfected form of his Pedestal Collection —a line of single-leg furniture—to the public. While initially only the world-famous Tulip Chair was named after the tulip, the accompanying table is now also known as the & “Tulip Table &,” as Knoll’s collection of single-leg furniture is inseparably linked. Designed in 1956, the Saarinen Tulip dining table, with its clean, sculptural, and organic form, is a prime example of timelessness that can still be found today in countless museums, hotels, and galleries around the globe. Knoll manufactures the “ Saarinen Tulip ” table with a cast aluminum base featuring a Rilsan coating. The tabletop is made of laminate and is available in various wood veneers and marble finishes. Upon request, the “Tulip” table by Knoll is also available in other heights and with different diameters.
