Kay Bojesen 's Lovebirds

Presumably, everyone has heard of lovebirds—the small African parrots whose defining characteristic is their very strong pair bond. This is rather unusual in the animal kingdom—and especially among birds—but lovebirds typically remain paired for life. They clearly demonstrate this strong pair bond by preening each other’s feathers, feeding one another, and sharing a nesting cavity. Not least because of this trait, these little parrots are often referred to as “lovebirds” and are known by that name especially in English-speaking countries. Naturally, Kay Bojesen had to pay tribute to these feathered romantics as well. Thus, lovebirds join the family of animals to which the Danish designer has dedicated loving tributes by recreating them in wood. Kay Bojesen ’s lovebirds are crafted from natural and smoked oak. The consistent choice of material symbolizes the strong bond between the pair of birds, yet the different treatments of the oak also create contrasts and a sense of depth. The wooden birds—which, naturally, come in a set of two—are highly decorative and feature high-quality craftsmanship.
