Armchair Made from an Innovative Material

The Piuma armchair was designed by Piero Lissoni for Kartell and is made from an innovative carbon-reinforced plastic derived from the automotive and aerospace industries; however, due to the complex manufacturing process, this material has not yet found its place in the furniture industry.

Light as a feather and extremely sturdy

The carbon-reinforced plastic is significantly lighter, yet durable enough that the material thickness can be reduced to a maximum of two millimeters. The armchair thus appears as light as a feather (Italian: Piuma) and, weighing just 2 kg, is unbeatable. Despite its featherweight design, the plastic chair is extremely robust, stable on its four-legged base, and even weather-resistant for use on patios and balconies. The ergonomically shaped seat is extremely comfortable, and the armrests extend from the seat shell like two wings.
