History of the Danish “ Hoptimist ”

In the late 1960s, Gustav Ehrenreich founded the cheerful Hoptimist en movement, inspired by his strong belief in the power of a smile. His goal was to create a character that would always remind us to stay positive and optimistic. Although the 1960s are often referred to as & “the happy ’60s &,” they were marked by unrest. Ehrenreich’s design offered a welcome source of joy during this turbulent time. Bimble and Bumble were the first Hoptimist characters the designer created: a girl in a dress with smiling eyes and an attentive boy with a parted hairstyle. Today, the happy Hoptimist characters are part of Danish design history and bring joy around the world.
