Pendant Light with a Dynamic Shape

The Nelson Saucer Crisscross Bubble pendant light from HAY was designed by George Nelson in 194 7. At the time, he was looking for suitable lighting for his office and came across a series of satin-finished Swedish pendant lights, which he found too expensive. Without further ado, he decided to create his own lamps that would meet his aesthetic vision.

Wire frame with polymer coating

As the base for his lamp, he used a dynamically shaped steel wire frame, which he coated with a plastic spray developed by the U.S. military. This created a thin-walled surface that allowed light to shine through gently. Even today, the Nelson Saucer Crisscross Bubble pendant lamp is manufactured in the same factory as it was in the 1950s. Thanks to the semi-transparent polymer, the light emitted is glare-free, making the fixture perfect for hanging over a dining table or desk. It is available in various sizes that can be easily combined with one another.
