HAY ’s popular DLM side table has grown: The Danish manufacturer now offers the small side table in an XL version as well. The DLM XL side table is 10 cm larger in diameter than its smaller counterpart and 7 cm taller. Aside from its size, however, the table is exactly the same as before. “DLM”—“Don’t leave me”—is what designer Thomas Bentzen from the Louise Campbell design studio in Copenhagen named his side table. And given its simple beauty, it’s unlikely anyone would even think of leaving this piece of furniture behind. The design reflects the Danish designer’s clear, linear approach to design. With the DLM XL, too, not a single part is superfluous—and not a single one is missing: the three legs of the steel frame provide a firm footing. The tabletop, also made of steel, provides enough space to set down the essentials. And the handle, curved like a walking stick, clearly reinforces the table’s concept: Take me with you! Whether next to the sofa, beside a lounge chair, or by the bed—DLM is the perfect alternative to side tables, which are often so heavy and unwieldy. With this harmony of form and function, DLM and DLM XL join the ranks of Scandinavian design classics without simply copying the masters of the 1950s and 1960s. This balance of tradition and modernity is a key goal of the Danish manufacturer HAY from Horsens, into whose collection the DLM XL fits perfectly.
