Lamp for the Pedera Building

The Pedrera lamp was created in the mid-1950s. Innovative in its design and choice of materials at the time, it is now considered a classic. Its well-thought-out and refined design has lost none of its classic charm over the decades. The Pedrera PD2 floor lamp fits perfectly into a modern home and, despite its size, lends the interior a cozy and airy atmosphere. The PD2 floor lamp is ideal next to the sofa, in empty corners, or simply placed anywhere in the room. There, it takes a discreet back seat and, with its striking appearance, resembles a sculpture. When the lamp is turned on, the inner shade casts a soft, cozy glow and creates a fascinating pattern when viewed through the outer shade. Pedrera ’s lamp was designed by the Spanish architect and designer Barba Corsini. In 1953, he was commissioned by the real estate company managing Gaudí’s famous residential building & #039;La Pedrera & #039; in Barcelona to design apartments for the penthouse of this building. For the Pedrera building, Barba Corsini subsequently designed 13 individual apartments, which were numbered 1 through 14 out of superstition. For these apartments, he also designed a series of lighting fixtures and furniture, which included the Pedrera lighting fixtures. Barba Corsini drew inspiration for the lighting series from the slender, cylindrical chimneys of the Pedrera building. The “ Pedrera ” table lamp, which is now manufactured by the Danish company Gubi , owes its name to its origins.
