Sculptural light fixture made of ash wood

The Seki-Han floor lamp, designed by Tobia Scarpa, is a contemporary reinterpretation of a 1963 design—a masterpiece that combines the warmth of wood with the precision of light. Two vertical ash wood wings, connected by chrome-plated metal fittings, enclose a central tubular light source that emits both direct and indirect light. By rotating the wooden wings, the light distribution can be individually adjusted—symmetrically or asymmetrically—to create a unique lighting atmosphere. The sturdy base made of raw, black iron, separated from the wooden wings by a delicate crossbar, lends the floor lamp stability and sculptural expressiveness. The specially developed, dimmable LED bulb provides soft, atmospheric light and can alternatively be replaced with standard T8 LED tubes. Inspired by traditional shipbuilding techniques, the Seki-Han Floor Scarpas’ deep understanding of materials, proportions, and craftsmanship—a poetic light object that combines warmth, precision, and timelessness.
