& “Eero Aarnio (1932) is one of the great innovators of contemporary Scandinavian design. I’m particularly interested in this designer because I see him as a sort of & #039;child within an adult & #039; which leads him to always strive to combine playful and paradoxical aspects of the design world. He has shaped a kind of & #039;playful Scandinavian design & #039; that has moved far away from the purist professional ethos that predominantly characterizes design in Northern Europe. “The projects presented here are the first in a product family that we will continue to expand &,” says Alberto Alessi about the collaboration with Eero Aarnio. For over half a century, Finnish designer Aarnio has been consistently creating objects for the home in geometric, rounded forms and vibrant colors that evoke childlike “systems of order.” His objects, almost always made of plastic, are visual stories that combine ironic and playful qualities with precise and explicitly functional everyday items—as exemplified by his iconic chair creations, the “Ball Chair” (1966), “Pastil Chair” (1967), and “Bubble Chair” (1968), for which Eero Aarnio became famous. The “ Citrus ” lemon squeezer, which Aarnio designed for Allesi, is made of thermoplastic resin—that is, also made of plastic. “ Citrus ” is available in various colors.
